Meteorite Hunting Adventures from across the U.S.A. and  Southwest Deserts

Welcome to NevadaMeteorites.com.  Home of American meteorite hunter Sonny Clary. This Web page contains meteorite
hunting adventures throughout the United States. Many of the hunting adventures are from the Mohave Desert to the Isolated
desert  of  Nevada and Arizona.  The Mohave Desert can climb well above 120 degrees Fahrenheit in the summer to below
freezing  in the winter.  The average rain  fall  for the Mohave Desert  is less than 5 inches . The low rain fall and arid climate
make the Southwest  Deserts a prime location to hunt for meteorites. The barren dry lake beds to the flat top mountains are
all  ideal  locations to search.  Many of my adventures are spent  traveling the back country roads in search of prime hunting
grounds.  Other meteorite hunting adventures are spent hiking across Dry lake beds looking for that out of place or strange
looking  rock  that  may hold the secrets from the universe. I have hunted areas from weeks to months without luck. On other
trips I have found meteorites within minutes of searching . Many of the new meteorite finds are single stone finds and others
turning out to be part of a large strewnfield covering many miles in all directions. It's hard to describe the thrill of walking into
an area with meteorites in all directions ( over one hundred twenty pounds ) with thousands  of fragments littering the ground
then  returning  to find pieces that would indicate a much  larger mass could be buried in the area .  One of my original finds
started out with the discovery of a single stone meteorite. Many months would pass before I decided to return to the location
of  the first find. Within two hours of hiking in the area, I found my second piece. Almost every trip to the area would produce
a new meteorite.  I have  found over 90  meteorites with more than 25 pounds of material from this one location.  One of my
rarest finds would be U.S.A's first Rumurti chondrite.  It is the only one of this classification type found in the United  States .
Only  92 R chondrites have been found world wide.  Over  the  last  5 years I have found numerous meteorites from different
locations Many of the  meteorites are still waiting to be classified. You can see some of the meteorites that I have recovered
throughout this web page and by viewing  Meteorites  Awaiting  Classification  page 1 .

Meteorite Crater Mining Company Historical Memorabilia

The meteor that caused the massive crater struck about 50,000 years ago. The size of the meteor was 40 to 50 meters across and weighed
in the order of 100,000 tons !   The speed upon impact was  around  20 kilometers per second and released the energy equivalent to  around
20 million tons of TNT. All life within a radius of around 20 kilometers was destroyed by the impact.
